A Great Start to the Season

For the first time in years Mother Nature smiled on us. What better weather could we have asked for? The sun was shining and hot, the wind was calm and shade was hard to find. As with every year Dave Spratt and myself carpooled into the fields around 8:45 am and did a walk around the fields. They were perfect! Rotary Park had racked the fields and the grass looked like it had been cut and green grass was being to grow.

As with every year registration went off with out a problem. I would like to thank the registration team for their hard work and organization in ensuring everything was ready to go as the players started to arrive.

A very special thanks needs to go out to Airdrie Little League who had representatives (buddies) from 3 teams. Here’s their website www.airdrielittleleague.com, thanks to the Parents, Coaches and Players, I know from talking with many of the players and parents that your contribution is extremely valuable and appreciated.

To all the parents out there that I saw snapping pictures. I’m hoping that you might send me one or two so that I can post them here on this blog and on Facebook. If you have any other stories or comments feel free to send them to me, I would love to share them with others.

Next Saturday is only 6 days away. If it’s sunny remember to bring the sunscreen I’m a perfect example of what could happen if you don’t.

Let’s Play Ball Saturday May 2, 2009

With the winter season behind us there’s a chill in the air, the snow is still a thought in our minds. The fields are now dry the clay is being prepared and the grass is everyday getting greener after a long winters nap. There’s a feeling in the air, a smell. What could it be it’s on the tip of the tong?

It’s the start of CHALLENGER LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL; this Saturday May 2, 2009 is the start of baseball. I know from past years that many of our players are excited to be playing ball. Most have probably been waiting, asking, begging to get out there and play, to see old friends and make new ones, to get out on the field and play.

It looks like Mother Nature is going to be a little kinder to us this year. As of Tuesday April 28, 2009 the forecast is for a high of 10 C, although this doesn’t sound great especially for the earlier times as it is going to be pretty cold (it sure does beat 18 inches of snow and every vehicle having a hard time getting out of the parking lot at Fire Park.)

Please remember that we are playing at an outdoor facility (Rotary Challenger Park) and will have to dress for the weather conditions (that includes spectators. A.K.A mom, dad, brothers, sisters and other guests.)
District #3 Little League will again be providing buddies. They have been a great supporter of Calgary Challenger Little League over the years. These are the kids and coaches (with the help of our volunteer coaches) that help out the athletes on the field. It is a learning experience for both the Challenger Athletes and the Little League athletes and coaches, because at the end of the day everyone is a Winner and the game is fun.
